On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered an immediate assessment of flood damage, directing deputy commissioners to conduct detailed surveys in the affected areas.
According to a press release, CM Maryam Nawaz directed that mosquito and germicidal sprays be used in all flood relief camps and tent settlements. She also instructed officials to ensure that flood victims have access to clean drinking water. The chief minister further instructed the Additional Chief Secretary (South) to make proper arrangements for flood victims in southern Punjab and requested a detailed report on rescue and relief efforts.
Prioritizing Health and Essential Supplies for Flood Victims
She emphasized that families, especially women and children, staying at relief camps should receive essential items like shoes and clothing. She remarked that people had left their homes under difficult circumstances and should not be abandoned. She also highlighted the risk of disease once floodwaters recede, stating that preparations must be made in advance to tackle this issue.
The chief minister ordered an increase in the number of mobile clinics and field hospitals in flood-affected regions, stressing the need to ensure access to remote areas. She also directed the formation of mobile medical teams, including gynecologists, gastroenterologists, and skin specialists, to visit these regions. She announced a special allowance for doctors, paramedical staff, and other personnel performing duties in these areas.
CM Maryam also instructed authorities to provide tents and space for flood victims according to their needs and convenience. In a separate decision, it was announced that the services of agriculture interns would be used to assist farmers in flood-affected regions.
