Officials have confirmed that at least six people were killed on Wednesday when unknown assailants opened fire on a passenger vehicle in the Lower Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to police, the attackers targeted the vehicle as it was traveling through the area. The bodies of the victims have since been moved to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. Law enforcement authorities reported that the gunmen fled the scene after the attack, and a search operation has been launched. An investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Fragile Peace Under Threat
This incident occurred just weeks after tribal elders in Lower Kurram and Sadda had reached a one-year peace agreement in July, aiming to end years of recurring clashes in the region.
During a jirga held at the Frontier Corps Fort in Sadda, elders from the Sunni and Tori Bangash tribes, along with district authorities and security officials, had signed the truce, which was consistent with the Kohat Agreement. Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Khan had previously hailed the pact as a “milestone for regional stability,” crediting the cooperation of tribal leaders and the sacrifices of security forces for bringing peace to the district.
