The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) experienced a Rs50 billion shortfall in tax collection during the second month of the current fiscal year. Sources revealed on Sunday that this deficit was attributed to heavy rainfall, floods, reduced consumption of electricity and gas, and sluggish business activity, particularly in the real estate sector. Against a target of Rs951 billion for August 2025, the FBR collected Rs901 billion.
In July 2025, the FBR collected Rs762 billion in taxes against a target of Rs750 billion. Total tax collection for the first two months of the fiscal year amounted to Rs1,663 billion. However, a cumulative shortfall of Rs35 billion emerged, as the target for the July-August period was set at Rs1,698 billion.
Sources close to the matter stated that the FBR must now collect over Rs1,465 billion in September 2025. The revenue target for the first quarter of the fiscal year has increased to Rs3,128 billion. The annual tax collection target has been set at Rs14,131 billion.
