In a report submitted to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi, police have stated that the incident involving Chanesar Town Chairman Farhan Ghani was a “simple quarrel” and no weapons were used. The report claims the complainant, Hafiz Sohail, failed to produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the excavation work and could not prove his employment with a government department.
The police report also noted that no CCTV footage of the incident was available. Officers informed the court that the complainant had appeared at the police station and had voluntarily withdrawn his case. Based on the complainant’s statement and the lack of evidence, Farhan Ghani and the other individuals were released. The report concluded that due to the withdrawal and absence of proof, the case could not be pursued.
During the hearing, the court questioned the Investigating Officer (IO) about his handling of the case, specifically concerning the surety bonds of the suspects. The IO subsequently submitted the bond report to the court. The proceedings have been postponed until September 2, with notices issued to the accused under Section 497 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
In an earlier hearing, Farhan Ghani, the younger brother of Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani, had denied the allegations. He stated that he was simply passing by when he noticed the unauthorized excavation work. As the Town Chairman, he claimed it was within his authority to request an NOC. “I only asked them to show the permission letter. When they didn’t, I asked them to stop. I did not assault anyone,” he told the court.
Farhan surrendered to the police last week after an FIR was lodged against him at the Ferozabad police station. The complaint, filed by Hafiz Sohail, alleged that he was attacked on August 22 while overseeing fiber cable work on a service road. The FIR had initially charged Farhan and his associates with attempted murder, terrorism, and other offenses.
