Actress Angelina Jolie, who previously produced the Broadway musical The Outsiders with her daughter Vivienne as an assistant, is back in the spotlight after attending another Broadway play directed by Danya Taymor. The musical was a hit, winning four Tony Awards in 2024. The new drama, John Proctor Is the Villain, has been a “dream” for its creators, who were thrilled to have Jolie in the audience.
The play’s producers shared photos of Jolie on Instagram, captioning the post, “a dream having the one and only Angelina Jolie join us at JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN.”
According to a source who spoke with People magazine, “Angelina was super complimentary of the play and bonded with the cast over their shared love for director Danya Taymor.”
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Universal Studios will adapt the play into a movie, with Tina Fey and Marc Platt as producers. The story of John Proctor Is the Villain revolves around a group of high school girls in a rural Georgia town studying The Crucible. Their English assignment becomes uncomfortably relevant as they question the hero status of John Proctor and confront scandalous truths about their own community and the powerful men within it.
