The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly denied media reports about major leadership changes in the national cricket team, calling them “baseless and unfounded.”
In an official statement, the PCB clarified that claims of Salman Ali Agha being appointed as Pakistan’s new ODI captain in place of Mohammad Rizwan are false. The board also dismissed reports that Saud Shakeel would replace Shan Masood as the Test captain.
The PCB confirmed that the selection committee never considered this matter, nor has any player’s central contract category been changed.
Background
Earlier, media outlets had reported that the board was considering a shake-up in captaincy across different formats. According to those reports, Salman Agha was a frontrunner for the ODI leadership, while Saud Shakeel was tipped for the Test captaincy. Insiders had even suggested that Saud’s central contract could be upgraded to Category B upon his appointment, with discussions focused on ensuring long-term leadership stability for future tours.
