Pakistani batter Haider Ali has been granted a two-week extension on his bail by the Greater Manchester Police in a case related to an alleged rape at a local hotel, which was reported by a British-Pakistani woman. Haider Ali was scheduled to report to the police on August 20, 2025, but was told to appear in two weeks instead, as the investigation into the allegations continues.
Greater Manchester Police had previously confirmed to Geo News that Ali was arrested on rape allegations. The police stated they received a rape report on Monday, August 4, and immediately arrested the 24-year-old. The police said, “It’s alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at a premises in Manchester. The man has since been bailed pending further enquiries. The victim is being supported by officers.”
In his police interview, Ali denied the rape allegation. According to his family members, he told the police that he knew the woman well and that they were friends. A source told Geo News that their meeting took place at a local hotel in Manchester.
He was arrested at the Players’ Canteen Office at the Spitfire County Cricket Ground in Kent and was taken to Canterbury Police Station by officers of the Kent Police.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that Ali has been provisionally suspended for the duration of the criminal investigation. “The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course,” the PCB said in a statement. “Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Once the legal proceedings are concluded and all facts have been duly established, the PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct, if necessary.”
Since his debut in 2020, Ali has represented Pakistan in 35 Twenty20 internationals and two One Day Internationals.
