Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon announced on Tuesday that all public and private schools in the city will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, following the severe torrential rains that have caused widespread urban flooding.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that the next two days will be critical for rainfall. The department added that more rain is expected to hit the city even after the current devastating spell.
With roads submerged, many children have not been able to reach home for several hours, leaving both students and their parents in distress.
Major arteries like Sharea Faisal and University Road are not clear for traffic as they remain inundated. The city’s inner roads are also submerged in water, with levels reaching several feet in some areas.
The heavy rains have triggered urban flooding across Karachi, paralyzing the metropolis. Major roads are underwater, businesses have been shut down, and electricity has been cut off in multiple neighborhoods.
Authorities have advised people to avoid commuting, as many individuals returning from work and school are still stranded with water rising several feet in areas like Malir—a situation reminiscent of the devastating rains of 2022.
