Following torrential rains that caused widespread urban flooding, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon announced on Tuesday that all public and private schools in Karachi will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that the next two days will be critical in terms of rainfall, with more showers expected to lash the city even after the current destructive spell.
Major roads, including Sharea Faisal and University Road, are submerged and impassable to traffic. Inner city roads are also inundated, with water levels reaching several feet in some areas, leaving many commuters and students stranded. This situation has been compared to the devastating floods the city experienced in 2022.
The heavy downpour has paralyzed Karachi, leading to submerged major roads, widespread power outages, and the closure of businesses. Authorities have advised people to avoid all non-essential travel to ensure their safety.
