In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn, co-chairman and CEO of DC Studios, was asked about the possibility of Margot Robbie returning to her role as Harley Quinn. Gunn’s response was brief and a bit vague: “That will be revealed down the line.”
While he remained tight-lipped on Harley Quinn, Gunn was more open about another character from The Suicide Squad, Bloodsport, played by Idris Elba. Gunn said he is actively looking for a way to bring that character back into the new DC Universe.
Margot Robbie on the Role
Robbie herself has talked about the character in the past. After filming Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad back-to-back, she mentioned that she needed a break from the role because it was “exhausting.” She also shared that she always envisioned Harley Quinn as a character that could be played by different actresses over time.
Robbie has portrayed the supervillain in three DC films:
- Suicide Squad (2016)
- Birds of Prey (2020)
- The Suicide Squad (2021)
She also noted that she believes the DC film universe operates more like the comics, with each movie being its own thing rather than a linear, interconnected story like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
