A social worker in Karachi has introduced a novel method to make stormwater drain water usable by planting hydrophyte plants, which naturally filter and purify the water. Aman Khan Kakakhel has implemented this technique in a drain in North Nazimabad, stating that the same approach could be used for the larger Malir and Lyari rivers to clean their water. He highlighted that these plants are environmentally friendly and also help to reduce the intensity of heat in urban areas.
