Iran Air has inaugurated its first direct flight connecting Quetta, Zahedan, and Mashhad, marking the first scheduled commercial air service between these “historic cities.”
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Mohammad Mudassir Tipu, welcomed the new flights, stating that this service was a long-standing request from the people of the region.
“I am absolutely delighted that Iran Air has initiated direct Quetta-Zahedan-Mashhad flights, linking three historic cities with immense potential. These new services will boost commerce, tourism, and interpersonal connections,” he remarked.
Mudassir Tipu added, “Given our extensive geography and economic requirements, we will continue to expand air travel links between Pakistan and Iran.”
The maiden flight landed at Quetta International Airport on Friday. Initially, Iran Air will operate one weekly flight between Quetta and Zahedan.
A ceremony was held at the Quetta airport to commemorate the launch.
In a related development, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced last month that Pakistani pilgrims would not be permitted to travel to Iran or Iraq by road for this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage due to safety concerns.
The interior minister stated on his X handle that this decision was made following extensive consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Balochistan government, and various security agencies.
