Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif greeted Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the PM House, where the visiting dignitary was honored with a guard of honor. Both leaders are set to hold bilateral talks and lead their respective delegations in scheduled meetings.
Expanding Cooperation: The two nations are expected to sign several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in various fields. This will be followed by a joint press conference by PM Shehbaz and President Pezeshkian. Accompanied by a high-level delegation, the Iranian president arrived in Pakistan on Saturday, where he was welcomed in Lahore by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif.
Trade and Economic Goals: Before his departure from Iran, President Pezeshkian stated his hope to increase bilateral trade to $10 billion and expressed Iran’s interest in actively participating in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also met with President Pezeshkian on Sunday, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its historic and brotherly ties with Iran.
Shared Vision: Speaking to the media, Ishaq Dar reiterated that Pakistan stands with Iran and will continue to support it in trade, economic, and other sectors. He welcomed President Pezeshkian’s vision to raise the trade volume between the two countries to $10 billion, calling it “heart-warming” and a “need of the hour” to expand economic cooperation.
