On Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar affirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to addressing global issues. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) spokesperson, Dar met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of his visit to the United States. During the meeting, Dar emphasized the necessity of bolstering the UN’s role in resolving disputes and promoting sustainable development.
Reaffirming the UN Charter, Dar underscored the importance of advancing peace through dialogue and diplomacy. In his discussion with Guterres, Dar brought attention to the Kashmir dispute, violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, and state-sponsored terrorism.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian state, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The UN Secretary-General commended Pakistan’s participation and contributions to the Security Council.
Furthermore, as per the MoFA, Dar also held a meeting with the President of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Yang.
Pakistan’s Dedication to the Sustainable Development Agenda
Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar addressed the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, reaffirming Pakistan’s strong dedication to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He also highlighted the country’s key socio-economic and climate resilience initiatives.
In his national address at the forum, Dar outlined the significant policy measures Pakistan is implementing to foster inclusive growth, enhance climate resilience, and advance economic reform amidst escalating global challenges, including food insecurity and climate change.
“Food crisis and climate change are among the most pressing challenges of our time,” he stated, adding that “Uraan Pakistan is a national development project aimed at empowering youth and promoting innovation.”
