At least 30 individuals sustained injuries on Saturday morning when a vehicle veered into a gathering outside a club on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, according to reports from the city’s fire department and local media outlets. The fire department stated in an online release that a minimum of seven people were in critical condition, with another six suffering serious injuries.
Reuters was unable to reach the city’s police department for immediate comment. The incident transpired just before 2 AM local time (0900 GMT), as reported by the fire department.
Captain Adam VanGerpen, a spokesperson for the fire department, was quoted by ABC News as stating that a paramedic assessing one of the injured individuals discovered a gunshot wound. He was unable to corroborate reports that the driver of the vehicle involved was the one with the gunshot wound. The report further indicated that preliminary investigations suggested the driver may have lost consciousness, causing the vehicle to ram into a large crowd gathered outside a nightclub. However, this information could not be immediately verified.
He added that the car seemingly first collided with a taco truck situated outside the establishment before proceeding to crash through a valet stand and into a substantial group of people. Videos shared on X depicted roads being cordoned off and injured individuals being transported away by ambulances. Authorities did not immediately release details regarding the cause of the incident or the identity of the driver. The area where the incident occurred is in proximity to well-known Hollywood landmarks, including Sunset Boulevard and the Walk of Fame – a sidewalk adorned with stars commemorating figures in the movie industry.
