A Pakistani fisherman, along with his boat, has been apprehended by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) near the maritime boundary in the Arabian Sea, according to sources from the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum.
The arrested fisherman has been identified as Rasool Bakhsh. He hails from village Rajan Tahmoor, located in Chhachh Jhan Khan, Tehsil Shahbandar of Sujawal district, Sindh.
The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum indicated that the incident likely occurred when the fisherman inadvertently crossed the unmarked maritime boundary during a routine fishing expedition. This is a common occurrence given the absence of clear demarcation in the sea between Pakistan and India.
The Forum further revealed that 35 fishermen from the Sujawal and Thatta districts are already imprisoned in Indian jails under similar charges of maritime trespassing.
