The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated a significant operation by formally escalating the Kohistan corruption case from an inquiry to a full-fledged investigation, leading to the recovery and freezing of assets valued at Rs25 billion.
During this operation, contractor Muhammad Ayub was apprehended. His interrogation unveiled suspicious transactions with influential individuals. Consequently, over Rs1 billion in cash, foreign currency, and three kilograms of gold were confiscated.
Furthermore, 73 bank accounts were frozen, resulting in the recovery of Rs5 billion. NAB also seized 77 luxury vehicles, with a combined worth exceeding Rs940 million.
Confiscated properties encompass 30 residential houses, 25 flats, 12 commercial plazas, 12 shops, four farmhouses, penthouses, and 175 kanals of agricultural land.
These properties were recovered from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Abbottabad, and Mansehra, with their total estimated value surpassing Rs17 billion.
