A dramatic event unfolded on the set of the British soap opera EastEnders when an extra was arrested following allegations of indecent assault, reportedly leaving the cast and crew stunned.
While filming was underway at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, a woman on set alleged that a male extra in his 50s attempted to forcibly kiss her.
According to The Sun, security staff for the BBC One soap intervened quickly to subdue the man, which resulted in a physical struggle. An insider stated that nothing this dramatic had ever occurred in the show’s history, noting that everyone was “quite shaken up.” The immediate focus was on the welfare of the distressed woman. The source added that the situation became “very heated” when the accused man confronted the security team.
Police were called to the location, and the man was taken into custody on suspicion of indecent assault against the woman and common assault against a second individual. Several cast members, including veteran actor Adam Woodyatt, who has played Ian Beale since the show began in 1985, reportedly witnessed the incident.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police confirmed receiving a report of an incident in Eldon Avenue, Borehamwood, on Wednesday, May 7. They confirmed a man in his 50s was arrested for common assault and sexual assault involving two victims, adding that he is currently on police bail while investigations continue.
