A five-story residential structure collapsed in Lyari’s Baghdadi area on Friday, resulting in at least four fatalities and six injuries, as reported by rescue officials.
According to rescue personnel, at least four bodies and six individuals were extricated from the debris in an injured state. A woman was among those successfully rescued.
Officials further stated that more people are feared to be entrapped beneath the rubble, and a rescue operation is actively in progress. Six families resided in the affected building, with numerous individuals reportedly trapped within the wreckage.
Hospital authorities confirmed that six injured persons were transported to the Civil Hospital’s Trauma Centre. One of the injured, a woman, is in critical condition and has been transferred to the ICU at Civil Hospital, while the remaining five sustained minor injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.
The Deputy Commissioner South affirmed that efforts are underway to safely extract the trapped individuals and confirmed that six families had been living in the collapsed building.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori conveyed his concern regarding the incident, emphasizing that all available resources must be deployed for rescue operations. He directed that immediate medical assistance and all necessary provisions be furnished to the injured, adding that any form of negligence or oversight would not be tolerated.
The stairwell of a seven-story building adjacent to the collapsed structure also gave way.
