It was revealed on Tuesday that an American woman has married Sajid Zeb Khan, a Pakistani man from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Upper Dir, following a two-year Facebook friendship.
Sajid confirmed that their Nikah (Islamic marriage contract) was solemnized last night. He added that Mindy, who hails from Chicago, embraced Islam and has taken on the Islamic name Zulekha.
Speaking to Geo News, Sajid expressed his joy, stating that they signed the marriage contract last night and Mindy’s arrival has brought happiness to his home. The American bride also shared her delight regarding her marriage to Sajid.
Mindy arrived in Pakistan just a day prior to marry Sajid. He received her at the Islamabad International Airport, from where they traveled to Usheri Dara in Upper Dir. The American woman, who works as a flight attendant and resides in Chicago, received a warm welcome from the local community in Dir.
Addressing the media, Sajid explained that he and Mindy connected on Facebook two years ago. As their online relationship deepened over time, she eventually proposed to him. The Upper Dir resident added that he accepted her proposal, and both informed their respective families about their decision.
In a video statement recorded from Sajid’s home, Mindy said: “My name is Mindy and I’m from America. I’m here in Pakistan for the first time. It’s a very beautiful, peaceful country. I came for Sajid Khan and we plan to marry soon.”
