Fans of Morgan Freeman have once again found their curiosity piqued regarding his health, following recent media mentions of his name. However, the renewed interest doesn’t stem from concerns about his well-being.
Instead, it’s due to a recent revelation from Oscar-winning actor Sam Rockwell. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Rockwell recounted a story about auditioning for a role in the 1989 film ‘Lean on Me,’ which starred Morgan Freeman. Rockwell disclosed that he, Michael Imperioli, and Kevin Corrigan all auditioned for a single line in the movie. Ultimately, Rockwell did not film his scene, and the production team opted to pay him only for the day’s work instead of a full week. Interestingly, Rockwell still receives residual checks for the role, despite not appearing in the final cut of the film.
This recent mention of Freeman’s name has inadvertently drawn attention to his ongoing health struggles. In March 2025, radaronline reported that Freeman’s shaky appearance at the Academy Awards reignited concerns about his fragility. The 87-year-old Oscar winner has been candid about his long battle with fibromyalgia, a chronic condition characterized by pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. Freeman was diagnosed with the disorder following a near-fatal car accident in 2008, which also resulted in partial paralysis of his left hand. He wears a compression glove to manage the associated nerve pain.
Despite these health challenges, sources close to Freeman confirm that he is alive and continues to live with his condition. Nevertheless, rumors about his death have long circulated on social media, with some fans even using his public appearances to mock the ongoing speculations.
