Allison Williams has shared her deeply distressing experience of giving birth to her son, Arlo. During a recent conversation on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast on June 24, the 37-year-old actress recounted her story to host Amanda Hirsch.
Recalling her 36-hour labor with fiancé Alexander Dreymon by her side, Williams revealed that she ultimately had an emergency C-section because her baby’s heart rate kept dropping. “From the moment I arrived,” Williams shared, “his heart rate would go down.”
The M3GAN actress described the ordeal as traumatic, stating, “Huge trauma. Deeply stressful. I realized at that moment that I hadn’t thought about the possibility of having a C-section.” From the outset of her pregnancy, Williams admitted she actively tried to avoid the idea of surgery.
“I hadn’t pictured it, wondered what it was like. I kind of was like, ‘Blah blah blah blah blah. I’ve never had surgery. I don’t wanna think about this.’ And so I didn’t,” she explained.
“That was just a profoundly scary moment where I realized like, ‘Oh my god. I’m about to have surgery for the first time,'” she said. “‘This isn’t going the way I pictured it… This is vulnerable.'”
