Princess Charlotte honored her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, at this year’s Trooping the Colour ceremony. On June 14, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s daughter arrived at the event in a horse-drawn carriage, seated beside her mother and opposite her brothers, Prince Louis and Prince George.
Princess Charlotte, aged 10, coordinated with her mother in an aqua dress, but it was her brooch that conveyed a particularly meaningful message. The young Princess wore a diamond horseshoe brooch, an adornment she had previously worn at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022. This brooch was a gift from the late monarch and had formerly belonged to her mother, the Queen Mother.
This elegant piece of jewelry paid homage to the late Queen’s profound affection for horses. Charlotte appears to have inherited this passion. It was previously disclosed that she has been taking riding lessons and exhibits a keen interest in animals and equestrian sports. A love for horses is a longstanding tradition within the British royal family; Queen Elizabeth’s daughter, Princess Anne, and granddaughter, Zara Tindall, seriously pursued their interest, competing in equestrian events at the Olympics.
The late monarch reportedly shared a special bond with Charlotte. In ITV’s 2016 documentary The Queen at Ninety, Princess Kate revealed, “The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington, she was one of our first visitors here.”
