Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco launched their inaugural collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, on March 21, 2025.
The album is reportedly a celebration of the couple’s “love story,” who became engaged in December 2024, offering fans a “unique window” into their relationship.
While promoting the album on the Hot Hits with Nic & Loren podcast, the record producer was questioned about his plans for a live performance with his fiancée.
“That’s like my worst nightmare,” the Bad Decisions songwriter responded.
Referring to an American Music Awards show and a comedy sketch program, he informed the hosts, “Performing live shows, like, anytime I had to do SNL or like AMAs I’m always just like, ‘When’s it over? When’s it over?'”
“I just want to be home on my couch,” Blanco elaborated.
Before concluding, the host, Nic Kelly, humorously announced, “Selena and Benny on a couch tour, coming to a city near you.”
Following this, Blanco faced significant criticism from Gomez’s fans, who interpreted his comment as an attempt to “control” the songstress. Fans took to their X accounts, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their opinions.
“That man being a weirdo and controlling Selena’s music career once again… no wonder ISILYF tanked bcoz the entire thing as well as the collab album was his idea,” one fan commented.
“So Benny Blanco suddenly thinks he has the power to decide what Selena does with her OWN music career… he literally said he won’t let her do tour and live stage,” another fan chimed in.
Meanwhile, some fans came to his defense, with a third person stating, “Y’all like to babysit Selena too much… Literally the guy spoke for himself, nothing else. Y’all think Selena is dumb enough to let people, let alone, A MAN control her or her career?” while another fan defended by adding, “He literally never said that, he said he hates it but didn’t even mention Sel.”
