The Grey’s Anatomy star spoke candidly about his condition with Diane Sawyer during an interview on Good Morning America.
It’s noteworthy that only a preview has been released thus far, and he can be heard stating, “I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening.”
He further added, “But ‘It’s not a dream’,” before concluding his statement.
For those unfamiliar with Dane’s diagnosis, he disclosed it to fans earlier this year in April.
ALS, known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a fatal motor neuron disease characterized by the progressive degeneration of nerve cells located within the spine and brain.
It primarily affects voluntary actions and can lead to difficulties with breathing, as well as movement issues in the arms and legs.
However, according to John Hopkins Medicine, it is not known to cause any impairment in hearing, vision, or the cognitive centers of the brain.
His previous announcement regarding the diagnosis came through People magazine.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he stated at the time. He added, “But I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week.”
Therefore, “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time,” he concluded his remarks then.
