On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif denounced what he termed an “unprovoked assault” by Israel on Iran, characterizing it as a perilous action capable of further destabilizing an already volatile Middle East.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the prime minister conveyed profound apprehension regarding the casualties resulting from the Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and extended his condolences to the Iranian populace.
“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, today’s unprovoked attack on Iran by Israel,” the prime minister wrote. “I convey my deepest sympathies to the Iranian people on the loss of lives in this attack.”
Reportedly, the Israeli strikes targeted numerous high-value military and nuclear facilities across Tehran and other cities, leading to the deaths of several senior Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists, including Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri and nuclear physicist Fereydoon Abbasi.
The Pakistani premier cautioned that such initiatives risk plunging the region into deeper conflict and called for immediate international intervention to alleviate tensions.
“This grave and highly irresponsible act is deeply alarming and risks further de-stabilizing an already volatile region,” he added. “We urge the international community and the United Nations to take urgent steps to prevent any further escalation that could imperil regional and global peace.”
