The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Sunday that Karachi residents are expected to face hot and humid conditions for the next 24 hours. This comes with the possibility of intermittent strong winds, as a severe heatwave is forecast for the entire country over the coming days.
According to the PMD, Karachi’s weather is likely to remain hot and humid, with only minor relief anticipated from the strong, intermittent winds over the next three days.
The Met Office further stated that maximum temperatures are predicted to range between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature recorded this morning was 28.2°C.
Currently, the humidity level in the metropolis is notably high at 78%, with sea winds blowing at a speed of 16 kilometers per hour. The PMD also observed high atmospheric pressure over the city.
Balochistan and Sindh Bracing for Elevated Temperatures
Furthermore, the Met Department also revealed that Balochistan is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, which is expected to persist until June 12.
While Quetta and its surrounding areas are presently clear and dry, the northern districts of the province are also facing dry weather, and the southern and central districts are enduring hot conditions.
The PMD reports that temperatures across Balochistan are currently 4°C to 6°C higher than normal. On Saturday, Sibi recorded a scorching 49°C, Turbat reached 41°C, and Nokkundi hit 43°C.
Further south, the upper and central regions of Sindh are also preparing for a severe heatwave. The PMD has warned that temperatures in these areas are likely to be 3°C to 5°C higher than normal from today until June 12.
Residents in all affected areas are strongly advised to take necessary precautions to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
