Hoda Kotb recently spoke candidly about her preferences for her potential successor on the Today show.
The 60-year-old American broadcaster and journalist appeared on the Thursday, June 5th episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she shared her top candidates to fill her previous role alongside Jenna Bush Hager on Today.
For context, Kotb departed the NBC morning show in January of this year after a 17-year tenure, with Craig Melvin subsequently taking over her position as Savannah Guthrie’s news co-host.
Meanwhile, Hager launched a new iteration of the show’s fourth hour, titled Today with Jenna and Friends, featuring various celebrity co-hosts such as Scarlett Johansson, Keke Palmer, Dwyane Wade, Taraji P. Henson, and Amy Poehler, among others.
When Cohen suggested that it might be unrealistic for Marvel star Johansson to commit to a full-time role, Kotb responded that she was very impressed with the actors who served as temporary co-hosts.
She stated, “Anybody would be so lucky. But to me, the contenders are Savannah, I think she would be great. I think Justin Sylvester is amazing.”
The Hope is a Rainbow author added, “Scarlett Johansson crushed it. She said it was her favorite job.”
“And Matt Rogers is great. And also our dear friend Sheinelle Jones who is going through a horrible time but I think she would be good. I feel like it’s whoever clicks great with Jenna,” Kotb remarked.
