Muslim pilgrims were performing the final ritual of the Hajj—the symbolic stoning of the devil—on Friday in Mina, Saudi Arabia. During this ritual, over 1.6 million pilgrims collected stones and threw seven stones at each of the three concrete walls, which symbolize the devil, located in the Mina valley on the outskirts of the holy city of Makkah.
Large groups of pilgrims had already departed from their accommodations in the sprawling tent city of Mina before dawn, taking advantage of the cooler temperatures.
