The Bohra community in Karachi is celebrating Eid al-Adha today, Friday, with significant congregations held in various areas including Saddar, Pakistan Chowk, Haidery, and other localities across the metropolis. The largest gathering of the community took place at the Tahiri Mosque, situated near Zahid Nihari in Saddar.
Robust security arrangements were implemented at all Bohra mosques throughout the city, with substantial contingents of Rangers and police officials stationed outside to ensure safety. Following the Eid prayers, the ritual of animal sacrifice commenced, as Eid al-Adha involves the slaughtering of sheep, goats, cattle, and camels. This sacred practice marks the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah and commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) profound readiness to sacrifice his son Ismail at Allah’s command.
Muslims worldwide are observing the annual festival of Eid al-Adha today, while many others will mark the festival tomorrow (Saturday) in different parts of the globe.
Meanwhile, Eid al-Adha is also being celebrated in Saudi Arabia today. The largest Eid prayers were performed at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who performed Umrah late last night with his delegation, offered Eid prayers at Masjid al-Haram. Millions of pilgrims arrived in Mina from Muzdalifah today for the subsequent phase of Hajj rituals. Pilgrims are currently engaged in the Rami (stoning) of Jamarat al-Aqaba (the big Satan) and will continue to stay in Mina on Zil Hajj 11 and 12 to complete the Rami.
On another note, the United Arab Emirates also observed Eid al-Adha prayers. The largest gathering in Dubai was organized by the Kalemah Centre in Al Qusais. Across the UAE, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and other emirates, Eid prayers emphasized the importance of peace, prosperity, and sacrifice. The Emirati leadership appealed to the community to foster peace and a spirit of assisting those in need.
Furthermore, Afghan refugees residing in Peshawar are also celebrating Eid today. Eid prayers were offered by Afghan refugees in areas of Peshawar such as Tajabad, Faqirabad, Hayatabad, Phando, and Baghbanan.
