Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that the government is resolute in its commitment to transform Pakistan into a stable global economy through sustainable institutional reforms, following a decisive victory in the “Marka-e-Haq.” Chairing a review meeting on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reforms in Islamabad on Monday, he highlighted that institutional reforms are progressing rapidly across all sectors.
He emphasized that all government institutions are diligently working to eradicate corruption and address other deficiencies, including a lack of transparency, from national institutions. The Prime Minister directed the engagement of globally renowned companies for third-party validation of the ongoing FBR initiatives and reforms.
Prime Minister Sharif stated that recent positive economic indicators serve as clear evidence of the sound direction of the government’s policies. He expressed satisfaction with the recent performance of the Faceless Customs Assessment System, noting that such reforms, introduced to ensure transparency, are yielding encouraging results.
Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with the Prime Minister on Sunday, President Asif Ali Zardari urged the government to implement practical and impactful measures in the upcoming budget to provide relief to the common citizen. This appeal was made during their meeting at Governor’s House, Lahore, where they discussed the prevailing political and security situation of the country.
During the meeting, the top leadership engaged in wide-ranging discussions on national affairs, encompassing the country’s political climate and security challenges. Participants also reviewed the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s recent visits to allied nations and their significance for Pakistan’s foreign relations.
The discussion also touched upon coordination and cooperation among political allies, underscoring the importance of unity in the current political landscape. The meeting was attended by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla.
The federal government is scheduled to unveil the fiscal budget on June 10 (Tuesday), immediately following the Eid ul Adha holidays.
