Joe Jonas is now acknowledging that the Jonas Brothers were not pleased with South Park‘s parody of them during their Disney Channel era. “Our skin was not as thick back then,” Joe Jonas told Mythical Chef Josh Scherer in a clip from the upcoming episode of Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals, obtained by People.
Jonas revealed that he was a South Park fan and found the jab amusing, but his brothers Kevin and Nick were not impressed. “I think I was the only brother that loved it,” he confessed. “I thought it was hilarious, because I watched South Park, and I was like, ‘This is so funny, I know what they’re doing, they make fun of everyone!'”
“To be made fun of by a comic is usually a sign that they give a s—, and they care, and it’s funny,” he remarked. “They really went for us.”
“I think they were going more so on, like, the idea of what it is,” he added.
In the show’s Season 13 premiere titled “The Ring,” South Park targeted the brothers’ purity rings, which symbolized virginity. It depicted them as puppets of an evil Mickey Mouse, whose aim was to sell s*x to young girls and circumvent their religious parents by promoting the brothers’ wholesome image.
The singer also noted that the spoof generally targeted Disney boy bands and didn’t solely dismantle the Jonas Brothers.
“I mean, what an honor to get my ass kicked by Mickey,” Joe Jonas concluded. “I think it’s one of my favorite episodes. And later on, now, we just laugh. We love that. I think it’s so great. Definitely a claim-to-fame for me.”
