Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the elimination of all fees associated with birth and death registrations across the province, hailing it as a significant stride towards guaranteeing citizens’ fundamental rights. “Identity is a fundamental right of every citizen, and we want to create convenience for the people,” the provincial chief executive stated in a press release.
She also issued directives to the concerned authorities to ensure the immediate implementation of the Birth & Death Registration Rules 2025. Under this new policy, citizens will now be able to register births and deaths free of charge at Union Councils and Municipal Committees for a period of up to seven years. Furthermore, the previous requirement of obtaining a court decree for late registrations has also been abolished. CM Maryam additionally announced that computerized birth and death certificates would also be issued without any fee, emphasizing the critical importance of timely registration to safeguard civil rights. She reiterated that the digital certificate is mandatory for accessing essential services and urged officials to facilitate citizens under these newly introduced reforms.
