Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has expressed appreciation for Iran’s efforts and support aimed at de-escalating tensions in South Asia.
The most recent surge in the long-standing rivalry between Pakistan and India commenced on May 7 when an unprovoked Indian attack resulted in the martyrdom of at least 31 civilians. In response, Pakistan downed six IAF fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft, and numerous drones.
During an exclusive interview with IRNA, the DG ISPR stated, “We are pleased with all the efforts of the international community and brotherly countries, especially Iran, which played a role in reducing tensions.”
Without naming any proscribed group operating in the border regions of Pakistan and Iran, the military spokesperson further commented, “We should be aware that there are forces in the region who, with the assistance of external factors, are attempting to create misunderstanding and confusion among brotherly nations in the region and desire to create a division between friends and brothers.”
He emphasised the historical and fraternal bond between Iran and Pakistan, noting that they consistently support each other in all challenges and trials.
The DG ISPR further elaborated that Pakistan and Iran are two neighbouring and amicable countries that maintain communication on numerous issues and across various sectors.
“Pakistan is keen and strives for the borders of the two countries to be borders of peace and friendship, and we anticipate this,” he added.
Referring to the significant standing of both nations in the region, the military spokesperson conveyed that Islamabad and Tehran are collaborating to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
