During a recent visit to the United States, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was confronted by a Sikh student regarding the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and Operation Blue Star.
The student questioned Gandhi’s stance on Sikh rights and highlighted the Congress party’s historical actions against the Sikh community.
In response, Gandhi acknowledged the past mistakes of his party, stating that many occurred before his time in politics, but expressed willingness to take responsibility for them. He emphasized his strong connection with the Sikh community, mentioning his visits to the Golden Temple and his public condemnation of the events of the 1980s.
The exchange, which took place on April 21, surfaced in a video on May 3 and has since drawn criticism from the BJP, which accused Gandhi of fear-mongering regarding Sikh identity under the current government.
