The federal government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of this year’s Workers’ Day Celebration.
The Minister of Interior from Abuja, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed the declaration on Tuesday in an official statement issued on behalf of the Federal Government.
Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their diligence and sacrifice. He acknowledged that the labour force had largely contributed to the nation’s greatness and the recognition it enjoyed among the community of nations.
“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the minister said.
The federal government reiterated the essential role of peace in fostering industrialisation and economic progress across the nation.

Tunji-Ojo encouraged workers to adopt a culture of innovation and productivity. He motivated the labour force to elevate their trades to enhance governance and ensure that all citizens benefit from the nation’s resources.
“This Administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigners in the country,” he assured the citizens.
“While wishing workers a happy celebration, the Honourable Minister urged Nigerians to keep hope alive as the present administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda he has promised,” he added.
