Amidst the ongoing tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi following the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan and China on Sunday reiterated their firm resolve to uphold regional peace and stability.
This development occurred as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, briefing him on the current regional situation.
The two top diplomats also emphasized the importance of promoting mutual respect and understanding, and expressed their opposition to unilateralism and hegemonic policies.
Besides China, Pakistan has reached out to friendly countries including Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Egypt to brief them on the situation arising from the deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists.
New Delhi has linked Islamabad to the attack without offering any evidence and has taken a series of punitive measures to downgrade bilateral ties, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking visas of Pakistani citizens, and closing the Wagah-Attari border crossing.
Pakistan has responded in kind to India’s measures and has warned of suspending the Simla Agreement, in addition to closing its airspace for Indian flights.
Islamabad has denied any involvement in the attack and has offered to participate in a credible and transparent investigation.
The Foreign Office statement, issued today, conveyed that Islamabad and Beijing agreed to maintain close communication and coordination at all levels to advance their shared objectives of peace, security, and sustainable development in the region and beyond.
The Deputy Prime Minister categorically rejected India’s unilateral and illegal actions, as well as its baseless propaganda against Pakistan, the statement added.
Expressing deep appreciation for China’s consistent and unwavering support, the Foreign Office said that Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the iron-clad Pakistan-China friendship and the shared vision of an all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.
He also emphasized Pakistan’s determination to further deepen bilateral cooperation across all spheres.
