The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced that all Saturday and Sunday holidays for its staff have been cancelled. This decision comes as a flash flood advisory has been issued across the entire province.
The reason for this is that heavy rainfall and a strong westerly weather system are expected to affect parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa starting today. This weather is increasing the risk of sudden flash floods, especially in low-lying areas and near rivers and their tributaries, including the Kabul River.
According to a spokesperson for PDMA, all officers and staff members have been instructed to remain on duty throughout the weekend. This is to ensure a quick and effective response in case of any emergency. The authority’s emergency operations center will be fully up and running on both days to keep a close eye on how the situation develops.

“Our main focus right now is to protect the lives and property of the public,” PDMA stated. “This situation demands that we are fully prepared, and we won’t compromise on how quickly we can respond.”
Earlier, PDMA had already issued a high-alert warning and directed all relevant departments, including Rescue 1122 and Civil Defense, to be extra vigilant and ready for any emergencies that might occur due to these flash floods.
PDMA also mentioned that a strong westerly wind system is expected to move into upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by tonight. This is expected to significantly increase the risk of flash floods, particularly in areas that are low-lying or near rivers.
