The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding an intense heatwave set to affect various regions of the country, particularly Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan.
Starting today, these areas are expected to experience significantly higher than usual temperatures, with daytime temperatures predicted to rise by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal levels.
The department further indicated that from April 18th onwards, temperatures in Islamabad, central and upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius.
Accompanying the temperature rise, gusty winds are also likely to occur, exacerbating the already scorching conditions.
Yesterday, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, and Dadu recorded the highest temperatures nationwide, reaching 43°C. Karachi, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ismail Khan closely followed, recording 39°C and 37°C, respectively.
Lahore and Peshawar both experienced 35°C, while Islamabad and Quetta recorded 33°C. This hot spell is expected to persist throughout the week, especially in the areas most impacted by the heatwave.
Experts have urged residents in the affected areas to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, such as staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged sun exposure during peak hours.
The Meteorological Department has also advised the general public to remain vigilant regarding the changing weather patterns in the coming days and to take necessary safety measures.
