A United States Congressional delegation, headed by Congressman Jack Bergman and including Congressmen Thomas Suozzi and Jonathan Jackson, held a meeting with Chief of Army Staff Gen Syed Asim Munir, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During their discussion, both sides addressed topics of mutual interest, regional stability, and defense collaboration. They reached a consensus on maintaining a relationship built upon mutual respect, shared values, and strategic alignment.
The US lawmakers commended Pakistan’s armed forces for their consistent role in the fight against terrorism and acknowledged the strategic resilience and determination demonstrated by Pakistan and its people.
The delegation reaffirmed its respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty and expressed a strong commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as security, trade, investment, and economic growth.
Gen Syed Asim Munir expressed his appreciation for the delegation’s visit and stated, “I value your visit to Pakistan and I look forward to further strengthening and expanding the long-standing partnership between our two countries.”
Prior to this meeting, the US and Pakistani delegations engaged in a comprehensive discussion on bilateral relations and various shared concerns. These discussions covered economic growth, trade, investment, and security, with a particular emphasis on counter-terrorism and border management.
The Pakistani side present at the discussions included Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker, and Interior Secretary Khurram Agha.
As part of the engagement, both sides signed memorandums of understanding aimed at facilitating cooperation in information technology training.
