Awam Pakistan Party (APP) convener Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stated on Friday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif needs to step forward for the country’s sake.
Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi, Abbasi said, “It is unclear who holds authority today. Despite discussions about canals, no one is addressing the water crisis.”
“Neither Punjab nor Sindh are receiving adequate water supply. The situation in both provinces is concerning. The system of governance has changed in recent years,” Abbasi stated.
He said, “Nawaz Sharif is the most experienced politician in the country’s history. If Nawaz Sharif doesn’t take responsibility for playing a pivotal role for the country, who will? After all, his party is in power.”
“It seems strange that Nawaz Sharif remains silent,” he remarked.
Abbasi asserted, “No politician or political party can be defeated except by the people.”
“The minus-plus system is no longer relevant,” he said.
Criticizing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Abbasi urged Imran Khan to “improve” himself as a politician, saying, “There is nothing positive to say about his tenure.”
He criticized former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, saying, “The Usman Buzdar-led government in Punjab was the most corrupt government ever in power.”
Admonishing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, Abbasi said, “A corrupt government has been ruling KP for the past 12 years.”
The former Prime Minister stated, “The PTI government did not spend any funds on development despite being in power at the federal level for the last four years.”
He questioned, “What is the value of public popularity if he [Imran Khan] intends to repeat the same actions as in his previous government?”
Regarding the country’s economic situation, Abbasi said, “The country’s economic growth continues to experience a negative trend.”
“The poor are becoming increasingly impoverished,” he said.
Abbasi asked, “What does the common person have to do with the stock market?”
“Taking loans is not a measure of success,” he said.
“How will the country’s economy progress if the government imposes a 62 percent tax on companies?” Abbasi asked.
