The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has escalated its crackdown on human smuggling networks, leading to 735 arrests and the seizure of substantial assets.
In a written response to the National Assembly, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi provided details of the enforcement measures taken to combat illegal migration and human trafficking.
Since June 2023, authorities have apprehended 204 individuals associated with boat accidents involving migrants.
Additionally, PKR 48.728 million has been recovered from these operations. Law enforcement agencies have also seized assets worth over PKR 602 million and frozen PKR 115 million in bank accounts linked to human smuggling networks.
In other FIA enforcement actions, 531 individuals were detained for their involvement in illegal migration activities. These operations resulted in the recovery of PKR 24.5 million, the confiscation of assets valued at PKR 215.9 million, and the freezing of PKR 74.96 million in bank accounts.
In total, under FIA’s heightened enforcement efforts, 735 individuals have been arrested, PKR 73 million has been recovered, assets worth PKR 818 million have been confiscated, and PKR 190 million in bank accounts have been frozen.
Meanwhile, the number of boat tragedies continues to rise, with 295 migrants losing their lives since June 2023 while attempting to reach Europe through unsafe and illegal routes. The most fatal incidents were reported in Greece, Morocco, and Libya. The FIA remains actively engaged in dismantling human trafficking rings, ensuring stringent action against those responsible for endangering lives through illegal migration.
