The Light of Volunteers in Ramadan: The Story of the Dynamic Team at Islamic Center of Frisco
By: Raja Zahid Akhtar Khanzada
As the blessed nights of Ramadan descend and the mosques illuminate with the light of faith, there are also some lamps that shine with the spirit of selfless service. These are the volunteers who dedicate their time, energy, and efforts every day, ensuring that every worshipper experiences ease, comfort, and security.
The dynamic volunteer team at the Islamic Center of Friscois one such shining beacon, tirelessly serving the community for years. Their mission is clear: serving the guests of Allah—without distinction, without exhaustion, without pause.
Who Are These Volunteers?
They are the ones who regulate traffic, transform parking chaos into order, and assist women, the elderly, and children in reaching the mosque with ease. What makes their commitment remarkable is that they are not just Pakistani but also Indian, Bangladeshi, and Muslims from other backgrounds—an embodiment of unity and brotherhood.
When the Islamic Center of Frisco was first established, the community comprised around 1,200 members. Today, it has grown into thousands, yet the dedication, sincerity, and hard work of this team have remained unwavering. Whether under the scorching sun, on freezing nights, amidst rainfall, or strong winds, they stand steadfast in fulfilling their responsibilities every single day.
Guardians of Order and Safety
This team not only manages traffic and parking but also ensures the safety of worshippers. Every year, at the beginning of Ramadan, the mosque administration reaches out to them, coordinating through advanced communication systems like walkie-talkies to effectively manage traffic, security, and the needs of worshippers.
They pay special attention to ensuring that women, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities do not have to walk long distances to reach the mosque. These volunteers make sure there are no traffic bottlenecks or pedestrian hazards, allowing every individual to reach the house of Allah with ease and peace.
Beyond their practical efforts, their kindness, humility, and sincerity make them more than just a team—they become a part of the blessings of Ramadan itself. Worshippers appreciate their warm demeanor and helpful nature, often offering heartfelt prayers in return.
A Grateful Community & Jago Times’ Initiative
These are the unsung heroes whom many of us overlook, yet their efforts allow us to pray in peace, break our fasts without worry, and stand in tranquility during Taraweeh prayers. Members of the community regularly express their gratitude, acknowledging the invaluable services of these volunteers. Jago Times has featured this dynamic volunteer team, capturing their selfless service through photographs to recognize their hard work and dedication.
A Message for All of Us…
Across the United States, similar volunteer teams serve in mosques throughout Ramadan. It is our duty to recognize, appreciate, and encourage them. A simple “JazakAllah Khair” or a word of thanks can uplift their spirits.
Just as they welcome us at the doors of the mosque, let us also acknowledge them with a smile and words of gratitude. This too is an act of worship, a small yet meaningful gesture of kindness that might bring countless blessings into our lives.
Jazakum Allahu Khayran!
