The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has projected that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed across Pakistan on Monday, March 31, 2025, following the completion of 29 days of Ramadan. According to the council’s Secretary General, Khalid Ijaz Mufti, the Shawwal crescent is anticipated to be readily visible in most regions of the country on the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2025, provided that clear weather conditions prevail. “The new moon will be born on Saturday, March 29, at 3:58 PM Pakistan time,” Mufti stated. By the time of sunset on Sunday, the crescent’s age will have surpassed 26 hours nationwide, rendering it visible to the naked eye. He further elaborated that for a moon to be sighted, it must be at least 18 hours old at sunset. “The age requirement will be comfortably met, as will the essential difference between sunset and moonset, which should be at least 40 minutes. This condition will be fulfilled in various cities throughout Pakistan,” he added. With moonset occurring significantly after sunset, the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council foresees no difficulties in confirming the crescent’s sighting, thus paving the way for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations on March 31. Official confirmation, however, will be provided by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which holds the authority for moon sighting announcements within the country. The committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, is scheduled to convene on March 30 to make the final determination. Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the conclusion of Ramadan, is a prominent Islamic festival, celebrated with prayers, family gatherings, and celebratory meals.
