Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has agreed to discuss the idea of sending tax refund checks to Americans using the department’s savings.
According to CNBC, the world’s richest person, Elon Musk, said on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, that he will ask US President Donald Trump whether the tax refund checks could be funded by DOGE savings.
This proposal was suggested by James Fishback, the CEO of Azoria Investment Firm, on X, where he stated that the US president has the opportunity to provide tax refunds to households through a so-called “DOGE Dividend”—funds saved from the department’s cost-cutting campaign.
In his proposal, Fishback wrote:
“When a breach of this magnitude happens in the private sector, the counterparty, at minimum, refunds the customer since they failed to deliver what was promised.”
He further added:
“It’s high time for the federal government to do the same and refund money back to taxpayers given what DOGE has uncovered.”
Responding to Fishback’s proposal, SpaceX owner Elon Musk said he would ‘check’ with the president to see if this could be done.
Furthermore, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, that DOGE claims to have saved $55 billion, while official records show $16.6 billion in savings.
