Karachi: A powerful westerly weather system is expected to affect various parts of the country from today (Monday) until February 22, according to meteorologist Jawad Memon. The system may impact 70 to 80 northern regions of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to Geo News, Memon stated that snowfall is expected in mountainous areas, while several regions may witness moderate to heavy rainfall. However, Sindh is unlikely to receive any rain from this system.
He further mentioned that significant rainfall is expected in Balochistan, with snowfall likely in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, and Khuzdar. Light to moderate rain is also expected in Gwadar, Pasni, Turbat, and Ormara, with hailstorms in some areas.
According to the meteorologist, Punjab is expected to receive good rainfall between February 19 and 21, particularly in southern and central regions, with two to three rain spells forecast. Some areas may also experience hailstorms. Islamabad and its surroundings could also witness two to three rain spells during this period.
However, Karachi will not receive any rain from this system but may experience partially cloudy skies today.
As per the weather expert, the western winds will reduce dry and dusty conditions while increasing humidity levels. The last week of February may bring cooler weather to the city.
Once this system subsides, a cold wave is expected to affect the northern regions of Pakistan, Memon concluded.
