The federal government has utilized only 20 percent of the allocated Rs1.1 trillion development budget in the first seven months of the ongoing fiscal year.
According to the report, Rs220.19 billion was spent on development projects between July and January, despite an approved release of Rs629 billion.
The documents further show that Rs48.64 billion was sanctioned for the development schemes of members of parliament.
However, only Rs8.2 million was utilized over the seven months, reflecting a stark underutilization of funds.
Meanwhile, over Rs59 billion was spent on development projects in provinces and special areas. Sector-wise spending details are as follows:
- Water resources projects received more than Rs44 billion.
- National Highway Authority (NHA) projects saw an expenditure of over Rs43 billion.
- Higher Education Commission (HEC) projects utilized over Rs13 billion.
- Railway Division projects were allocated over Rs12 billion.
- Power Division projects saw a spending of over Rs5 billion.
