Islamabad:
The Inland Revenue Service Officers Association (IRSOA) has strongly refuted the allegations made by Senator Faisal Vawda, in which he claimed that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials had threatened him over objections to an official vehicle procurement plan.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the association termed the allegations “baseless and reckless,” saying they were an attempt to tarnish the reputation of dedicated civil servants.
Vawda’s Allegations & Vehicle Procurement Controversy
During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, Faisal Vawda alleged that three FBR officers had threatened him for opposing an “opaque” procurement process for official vehicles.
Earlier this month, the FBR had announced the purchase of 1,010 new vehicles. However, the Senate committee, chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, directed the tax authority to halt the procurement plan.
On January 23, the committee agreed to write to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb to stop the purchase.
FBR Officers Reject the Allegations
Responding to the allegations, IRSOA categorically denied any involvement of FBR officers in misconduct of this nature.
“Our officers uphold the highest ethical standards in revenue mobilization and fiscal governance. The claims of issuing threats are entirely false,” the statement said.
It further clarified that the vehicle procurement process was conducted in full compliance with federal cabinet approvals and austerity committees’ regulations.
The association urged Senator Vawda to present credible evidence through proper legal channels instead of making unverified public accusations.
“Such baseless allegations not only undermine institutional integrity but also divert attention from constructive discussions on national priorities,” it added.
Demoralization of FBR Officials
IRSOA also expressed serious concern over the negative impact of such remarks on FBR personnel, warning that “unwarranted scrutiny of an authorized administrative decision could harm operational efficiency and morale.”
The association reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law within tax administration and urged the Senate leadership to ensure fairness in parliamentary proceedings.
“IRSOA remains steadfast in defending the dignity of its officers while continuing its mission of revenue collection and national service with integrity. If necessary, the association reserves the right to take the matter to judicial forums,” the statement concluded.
