Lahore/Sheikhupura:
On Friday, the Shalimar Express train derailed near the Shahdara Bridge while traveling from Lahore to Karachi.
Officials reported that three coaches of the train went off the tracks, prompting immediate response from rescue services. Train services were also suspended following the incident.
According to a railway spokesperson, “The Shalimar Express departed from Lahore at 7:30 AM.” He confirmed that “all passengers onboard the derailed coaches are safe” and were transported to Shahdara railway station.
Railways CEO Aamir Ali Baloch has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The affected train has been sent to Khanewal. Additionally, passengers from seven coaches will be transported to Wazirabad and Sangla Hill via Sheikhupura, while passengers from the remaining eight coaches will travel to Sahiwal and Khanewal via Lahore.
Shalimar Express will be reassembled at Khanewal Railway Station before continuing its journey to Karachi.
Meanwhile, the Karakoram Express, traveling from Karachi to Lahore, has been halted at Sheikhupura Railway Station and will be rerouted to Lahore via Wazirabad and Sangla Hill.
A relief train has been dispatched to Lahore to clear the railway track. Passengers of the affected train will be taken to Lahore Railway Station, where another Shalimar Express will transport them to Karachi via Sahiwal.
“Trains from Karachi to Lahore are being diverted to Wazirabad instead of Sheikhupura,” the spokesperson stated.
Additionally, a passenger train coming from Jaranwala has been stopped at Missan Kalar Railway Station.
