RAWALPINDI: PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan expressed regret on Tuesday over the government’s failure to establish judicial commissions within the seven-day deadline, clarifying that his party was not in dialogue with any other party.
Speaking to the media, he said, “It’s unfortunate that talks could not progress. We approached the government with an open heart, and our demand was that the judicial commission be announced within seven days.”
He further stated that the negotiations would have moved forward had the judicial commissions been formed.
The PTI and the ruling coalition have been engaged in discussions for almost a month to alleviate political tensions in the country. Three rounds of talks have been held so far.
However, the dialogue process hit a roadblock when PTI pulled out due to the government’s failure to establish judicial commissions to investigate the May 9, 2023 protests and the crackdown on party protesters in Islamabad on November 26 last year.
The PTI chairman emphasized that his party has been fighting for the supremacy of democracy and the Constitution for 27 years. He said they were in contact with political parties to ensure all stakeholders are brought on board regarding the 26th Constitutional Amendment and an independent judiciary.
Gohar Ali Khan added that they would make every effort, including protests, to demand the formation of the judicial commission.
On rumors regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s position in the party, Gohar Ali Khan clarified that the PTI founder had dismissed rumors about Gandapur. He said that Gandapur himself approached the founder, citing the heavy workload as the reason for his lack of sleep, which led to the change of the provincial president on Gandapur’s recommendation.
